Pursue this 9-day road trip through the Coast Mountains of British Columbia and Vancouver Island. Spend a couple of days exploring Vancouver before embarking on your drive up the iconic Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler. Spend two nights in Whistler indulging in the best of activities and adventure Canada’s activity Capital can offer. Cross the Straits of Georgia to Pacific Rim National Park. Look for whales off the coast of Tofino, surf at Chesterman Beach, and pick up a hiking trail through ancient rainforest to the wave-whipped Pacific Coast. Go on a Bear watching tour. End your tour in Victoria with a visit to the world famous Butchart Gardens.


Arrive into Vancouver. On arrival at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) pick up your bags and proceed to the Car Rental office at YVR Airport. You will present your confirmation voucher along with your valid Driver’s License and credit card to rent your pre-booked car.

Proceed to your hotel in downtown Vancouver. Rest of the day free to explore Vancouver on your own.

Overnight in Vancouver, BC.

Explore Vancouver on your own. Spend the day exploring Chinatown, and Grenville Island. Visit Canada Place, and spend time on Robson Street with its multitude of shopping, pubs and restaurants. Spend time in Gastown and watch the Steam Clock whistle the hour. Drive through the beautiful Stanley Park, a magnificent 400-hectare natural West Coast rainforest green oasis in the midst of the urban landscape of Vancouver. Get great city views from lookouts like Prospect Point. Later cross the Lions Gate Bridge and visit the world famous Capilano Bridge, a 450 feet suspension bridge spanning the Capilano Bridge, 230 feet above the river. You may also want to pay a visit to the Grouse Mountain to have a face to face view of our grizzlies Kola and Grinder.

Your self-drive package includes admission to FlyOver Canada.

Overnight in Vancouver, BC.

Crossing the Lions Gate Bridge, drive north up the Sea to Sky Hwy (Hwy 99) to Whistler. With the Howe Sound on the left and the mountains on the right, this is one of the most scenic drives in North America. The first stop on your way north would be the village of Horseshoe Bay with is cozy coffee shops and laid-back life. From there driving north, we recommend stops at Whytecliff Park, beautiful park nestled into a pocket cove surrounded by fancy West Vancouver mansions. Other stops recommended include Porteau Cove, Britannia Mine Museum, Shannon Falls, 1,099 feet tall, the 3rd highest waterfall in BC. Another stop we recommend is the Stawamus Chief is a huge granite dome that towers over the town of Squamish.

You will also want to take a ride up the Sea 2 Sky Gondola just north of the Shannon Falls.

On arrival in Whistler, check into your hotel. Spend the rest of the day exploring the Alpine village of Whistler.

Whistler is the activity capital of Canada. The Alpine Village offers you just about every activity you can wish for from hiking and mountain biking to canoeing, river rafting, ziplining and a rainforest through on a all terrain RZR. You must not miss the Peak-to-Peak Gondola. This Guinness World Record-breaking Gondola spans the distance between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains and provides an unparalleled perspective of British Columbia's rooftop and incomparable views of towering volcanic peaks, coastal rainforests, and ancient glaciers. Disembark and the experience is far from over.

Whistler offers a vibrant dining and pub experience. Spend your evening trying the dining scene in Whistler.

Overnight in Whistler, BC.

This morning, you will drive down from Whistler to Horseshoe Bay where you will take the BC Ferry sailing to Nanaimo. This ferry route takes approximately 2.5 hours, arriving at the Duke Point terminal, about 15 minutes south of Nanaimo.

Though the drive from Nanaimo to Tofino can be done in about 3 hours, be ready to give yourself five hours. You would not want to rush your road trip. This would allow multiple stops along the way to explore and admire the rugged beauty. Make your first stop at Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park where you will stand next to some of the tallest, mightiest Douglas fir trees on earth.

From here, drive along Highway 4 to reach the fishing town of Port Alberni. This is a great place to stop for a bite, a restroom break and top up your gas tank. Leaving Port Alberni, the Highway 4 becomes the Pacific Rim Highway. What follows from here on, this drive becomes a challenging and exhilarating 90-minute drive on a single-lane, twisting road with hairpin turns. All along this portion of the Pacific Rim Highway, there you can stop to take in the magnificent sights that make this drive interesting.

On arrival at Tofino, check into your hotel.

Here is an opportunity to come face to face with one of the most fearsome and fascinating creatures that roam the forests of the West Coast of Vancouver Island, the black bear. Depending on the low tide, board our 45 foot covered cruiser to sail along the lush coastline to the feeding grounds of black bears.

This tour is included in your self-drive package.

Spend the day exploring Tofino. The town offers you a variety of tours and activities. These include beaches, biking and hiking trails, fishing, food tours, golfing, kayaking & canoeing, and much more.

Overnight at Tofino, BC.

This morning leave Tofino to drive to Victoria on the southern side of Vancouver Island. We recommend you top up your gas tank before leaving Tofino. From Tofino, drive south on the Pacific Rim Hwy to Ucluelet. On arriving into Ucluelet, stroll around the quaint seaside town. A must-see stop is the Ucluelet Aquarium, Canada’s first collect-and-release aquarium. From Ucluelet, you will drive to Port Alberni. This is the longest stretch of road between destinations, so be sure to fill up your tank again before you hit the road. From here drive east to Parksville and then drive south to Ladysmith. Ladysmith is a quaint little seaside town with a bustling main stretch overlooking the Straits of Georgia. The First Avenue plays host to sweet boutique shops and in 2017, this street was named “Canada’s Great Street” by the Canadian Institute of Planners.

From here, we drive south through Duncan to arrive in Victoria.

This morning, explore Victoria, the capital of the province of British Columbia. Stroll through downtown Victoria. Drive out to Brentwood and visit the world famous Butchart Gardens.

Admissions to Butchart Gardens are included in your self-drive package.

Victoria offers some of the best whale watching tours. You may book these through DMCi.

The Lobby Lounge at the Fairmont Empress is an extremely popular venue for a Hi Tea, England's most beloved ritual of afternoon tea. Advance reservations are required.

Take a drive to Oak Bay and on the way stop by at Mile Zero, starting point of the 4,860 Km Trans-Canada Highway, the longest highway in the world. Driving to Oak Bay, we recommend a stop at the Oak Bay Marina to watch the antics of a family of harbour seals. You may also want to consider a visit to the Craigdarroch Castle.

Overnight in Victoria, BC.

This morning, check out of hotel, drive out to Swartz Bay for a 1 ½ hour ferry crossing to Vancouver. On arrival at Tsawwassen Ferry terminal on the mainland, drive to Vancouver international Airport (YVR) and drop off your car.
