Located on the northern tip of Hondoo Island on Kawawaymog Lake, the island is very private. A 15-minute boat ride from Algonquin Park access # 1 marks the start of your week in this paradise. Explore the neighboring islands or paddle down the Amable du fond river at sunrise. Hike the forgotten trails.

The Hondoo Chalet is comfortable with all the comforts of home. 4 large bedrooms, large dining room with fireplace, huge kitchen, walk out deck, swimming dock, sundeck and two full washrooms.

The chalet has a well-equipped kitchen, and the island has a BBQ and firepit. If you don’t feel like cooking, canoe to the licensed Broken Paddle Patio for BBQ dinners.

Add on catered meals or send your shop list and have your food waiting for you on arrival. Add stand up paddle boards, fishing equipment or a float plane to get you to the island in just one hour on a flight from downtown Toronto.

WHAT DOES OFF GRID MEAN
It means that Hondoo is not like your home and not hooked up to the Ontario Power Electricity. We operate on solar power to provide lights and run the water pumps to our well.
IS THERE ELECTRICTY?
Yes, we operate on solar electricity. Our fridge, stove, water heater run on propane gas. Please note there is not have enough power to plug in certain electronics. Please talk to our office for details. Be sure to bring spare batteries for your devices when you visit!
IS THERE CELLPHONE SERVICE OR WI-FI?
Yes. There is cell service and Wi-Fi on Hondoo Island!
CAN I DRINK THE WATER?
Water from the tap is not drinkable. The chalet management team will supply drinking water during your stay.
ARE THERE BOATS CLIENTS CAN USE?
Hondoo Island comes with one canoe, paddles, PFDs (Personal Flotation Device) and a paddle boat. Additional canoes, kayaks, and Stand-Up Board can be rented from the chalet management. The Outfitting store, just a 15-minute paddle away.
WHO IS THE GUIDE?
The guides are skilled outdoor professionals who ensure your canoe or cabin trip is an adventure of a lifetime. On top of being well versed in the natural and cultural history of Algonquin Park, the guides are warm, personable, and service-oriented. Most guides are post-secondary graduates with outdoor adventure programmes, and all possess industry certification in wilderness first aid, lifeguard, and canoe instruction.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You only need to bring your personal items: clothing, toiletries, and cameras. A complete list of what to bring will be emailed to your after booking.
CAN I BRING ALCOHOL?
Absolutely! (and enjoy responsibly!) Bring whatever you wish.
CAN I FISH?
Yes, you can fish on the lake, river and surrounding area. You must have your own Ontario fishing license and Outdoors Card. For non-Canadian residents, see 1-day permits here. Fishing rods and tackle can be rented from Outfitting store.
CAN CLIENTS ADD ON MEALS & EXCURSIONS?
Single meals or fully-catered meal packages are available – contact our office for more information. The Broken Paddle Patio is licensed and offers outstanding dinners. Please ensure you make a reservation.
CAN CLIENTS BRING OUR DOGS?
We do love dogs and you are more than welcome to bring your furry friend. Please note that you are responsible for cleaning up after your dog and for any damage to furniture, floors etc. that your dog may cause. An additional damage deposit of $250 is required for guests with pets.
