Our Algonquin Hondoo Island Chalet is the classic setting for your clients to bring their family & friends for a spring, summer or fall weekend adventure. Canoe into the sunrise to look for moose on the Amable du Fond River. Swim, hike or go fishing for bass or trout. Or choose to take it easy on the deck with afternoon of reading or just lazing around. Sip cocktails on the sundeck while watching the sunset. The cottage is solar-powered and comes with Wi-Fi and all the comforts of home, in the most stunning Algonquin setting!

  • The pricing displayed here is based on a minimum of 4 persons sharing the Chalet as a closed family group.  
  • The Chalet is only available for closed group of friends and families this summer.
  • Chalet can take up to 10 persons.  Check with us for pricing.
  • The operation of this tour is subject to the evolving COVID-19 situation.
  • Clients will be required to sign off on the Waiver form on site before check in.
  • Optional transfers offered from Greater Toronto Area.

Itinerary

Our guide will meet up with you at the pick up point and provide client a comfortable pontoon boat transfer to the Hondoo Island.  On arrival at the Island, the guide will provide you am orientation tour of the property and the island.

Rest of the afternoon free to relax, unwind and take it easy or go out paddling, swimming or fishing.

Optional – Wine & Cheese on sun deck (not included in the cost of the package).

6:00 PM - Welcome BBQ dinner on the deck or served in cottage dining room.

Overnight in the luxurious Hondoo Island Chalet. - Algonquin Park.

Early morning clients will depart on a canoe excursion in large 10 person canoe. Coffee and tea will be served on board the canoe. 
 
Return for Continental Breakfast served on the deck or inside the chalet.

Rest of the day free for clients to explore, and relax.  Each stay comes with 2 canoes, paddleboat and kayak.

Boxed lunch will be left by the management inside the chalet.  We offer the option to add instructions as well as guided tours for an addon cost.

6 PM – Our pontoon boat will pick up clients and transfer them to Broken Paddle Patio for 4-course dinner. Post dinner depart on a Sunset Cruise back to Hondoo Island.

Overnight in the luxurious Hondoo Island Chalet. - Algonquin Park.

10 AM –Brunch is served on the patio or inside the chalet.

2 PM - Pontoon boat picks up clients and transfer them to the Pickup point.

Located on the northern tip of Hondoo Island on Kawawaymog Lake, the island is very private. A 15-minute boat ride from Algonquin Park access # 1 marks the start of your week in this paradise. Explore the neighboring islands or paddle down the Amable du fond river at sunrise. Hike the forgotten trails.

The chalet has a well-equipped kitchen, and the island has a BBQ and firepit. If you don’t feel like cooking, canoe to the licensed Broken Paddle Patio for BBQ dinners.

Add on catered meals or send your shop list and have your food waiting for you on arrival. Add stand up paddle boards, fishing equipment or a float plane to get you to the island in just one hour on a flight from downtown Toronto.

FAQ


WHAT DOES OFF GRID MEAN

It means that Hondoo is not like your home and not hooked up to the Ontario Power Electricity. We operate on solar power to provide lights and run the water pumps to our well.


IS THERE ELECTRICTY?

Yes, we operate on  solar electricity. Our fridge, stove, water heater run on propane gas. Please note there is not have  enough power to plug in certain  electronics.  Please talk to our office for details. Be sure to bring spare batteries for your devices when you visit!


IS THERE CELLPHONE SERVICE OR WI-FI?

Yes. There is cell service and Wi-Fi on Hondoo Island!


CAN I DRINK THE WATER?

Water from the tap is not drinkable. The chalet management team will supply drinking water during your stay.  


ARE THERE BOATS CLIENTS CAN USE?

Hondoo Island comes with one canoe, paddles, PFDs (Personal Flotation Device) and a paddle boat. Additional canoes, kayaks, and Stand-Up Board can be rented from the chalet management.  The Outfitting store, just a 15-minute paddle away. 


WHO IS THE GUIDE?

The guides are skilled outdoor professionals who ensure your canoe or cabin trip is an adventure of a lifetime. On top of being well versed in the natural and cultural history of Algonquin Park, the guides are warm, personable, and service-oriented. Most guides are post-secondary graduates with outdoor adventure programmes, and all possess industry certification in wilderness first aid, lifeguard, and canoe instruction.


WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

You only need to bring your personal items: clothing, toiletries, and cameras. A complete list of what to bring will be emailed to your after booking.


CAN I BRING ALCOHOL?

Absolutely!   (and enjoy responsibly!) Bring whatever you wish. 


CAN I FISH?

Yes, you can fish on the lake, river and surrounding area. You must have your own Ontario fishing license and Outdoors Card. For non-Canadian residents, see 1-day permits here.  Fishing rods and tackle can be rented from Outfitting store.


CAN CLIENTS ADD ON MEALS & EXCURSIONS?

Single meals or fully-catered meal packages are available – contact our office for more information. The Broken Paddle Patio is licensed and offers outstanding dinners. Please ensure you make a reservation.


CAN CLIENTS BRING OUR DOGS?

We do love dogs and you are more than welcome to bring your furry friend. Please note that you are responsible for cleaning up after your dog and for any damage to furniture, floors etc. that your dog may cause. An additional damage deposit of $250 is required for guests with pets.
