This itinerary is designed for travelers limited on vacation time but desire to cover as many of the highlights as possible.  This self-driving Rockies to Ocean combines Alberta's allure with BC 's beauty allowing you the opportunity to explore the best of the Canadian Rockies and the BC Coast. In a span of 8 days, this itinerary will take you from Calgary to Banff National Park, the Canadian Rockies and through the Jasper National Park to the town of Jasper.  At Jasper, you will turn west to drive down the Yellowhead Highway past Mount Robson National Park and into the BC interior. Your route then continues west through the commanding Fraser Canyon, before arriving at the beautiful coastal town of Vancouver, where you will end your stay.

Driving Distance - 146 KM | 2 hours
Arrive at Calgary International Airport (YYC).  Collect your bags and proceed to the Car Rental office at YYC Airport.  Pick up your rental car and depart on your self-drive holiday into the Canadian Rockies.

As you leave Calgary and drive west along the Trans Canada Hyw, you will see in a distance, the jagged peaks of the Rocky Mountains line the horizon.  Driving through the Bow Valley Provincial Park, you will pass the towering Three Sisters Ranges and the town of Canmore to arrive in Banff.  The drive takes approximately two hours and chances are you will see wildlife such as Elk and Deer along the sides of the highway as you pass by.

Feel the majesty of craggy peaks as you enter the Banff National Park.  The drive to Banff will take you approximately two hours and you will see the Three Sisters Range and pass the town of Canmore on your own.

Mt. Rundle and Mt. Cascade, part of the Rocky Mountains dominate the skyline of Banff. Boutiques and restaurants mix with château-style hotels and souvenir shops on Banff Avenue, the main thoroughfare. The 6,500 square kilometers of parkland surrounding Banff is host to animals including elk and grizzly bears.

Driving Distance - 299 | 8 hours
Start your day early.  Spend the morning part of the day exploring Banff and the Banff National Park.  Start your day with ride on the famous Banff Gondola to the peak of the Sulphur Mountain.  The Gondola Ride is included in your Self-Drive package. Visit Lookout Point, Bow Falls, the Tunnel Mountains & the Hoodoos. Explore Johnston Canyon or spend your day in some of the interesting activities Banff offers.

These include a cruise on Lake Minnewanka, hiking, Horseback Riding with a Cowboy Cookout, river rafting in Kicking Horse, Via Ferrata on Mount Norquay and much more. 

If you are not planning to take any of the optional tours offered, we recommend you drive west along the Trans Canada Highway to the Yoho National Park.  Enroute stop at the Lower Spiral Tunnel viewpoint for some views of this engineering marvel before proceeding to the Natural bridge and Emerald Lake in the Yoho National Park.

Driving Distance - 288 KM | 8 hours
This morning, you will leave the town of Banff to drive north to Jasper at the top of the Icefield Park.  This is 288 km drive and with the stops you will make enroute, it will take up your entire day, arriving into Jasper closer to dinner hour.  Your first stop this morning will be at Lake Louise, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The shimmering turquoise green waters of Lake Louise will leave you speechless. 

You will find it hard to tear away from the stunning beauty of Lake Louise.  But, north along Icefields Parkway (Highway 93), a wide stretch of breath-taking country awaits you.  Renowned for the Columbia Icefield off this Hwy, the parkway winds through forested river valleys cradled by walls of dazzling peaks. You will frequently spot elk, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, black and grizzly bears, wolf, or caribou. 
Interesting viewing spots along the highway include Bow Lake with majestic views of the Crowfoot Glacier, Saskatchewan River Crossing, Sunwapta River, and Athabasca Falls.

Your Self-drive Package includes a visit to the Columbia Icefield and admissions to the world-famous Ice Explorer and Glacier Skywalk Experience at the Columbia Icefield.
  
Overnight in Jasper, AB
Jasper is a small mountain town tucked away on the northernmost point on Hwy-93, in the Jasper National Park. You can explore Jasper on your own or opt for one of our several scheduled tours and activities.  

Closer to town, drive out to Pyramid and Patricia Lakes for some stunning views. Take a ride up onto Whistlers Mountain on the Jasper SkyTram and have a great chance of sharing excellent views with big horn sheep at the top of the stairs at Old Fort Point. Further out, drive to the Maligne 

Lake for a Cruise to the Spirit Island. Enroute, stop to see the historic Jasper Park Lodge, Edith, and Annette Lakes.  Pay a visit to the narrow and deep Maligne Canyon and the fast-disappearing Medicine Lake.  If you still have time on hand, drive east to visit Miette Hot Springs for the hottest soak in the Rockies.

Driving Distance - 449 KM | 6 hours
Today you will leave Jasper for Sun Peaks in British Columbia. Leaving Jasper National Park, you will drive along the 'Yellowhead Hwy', first explored by trappers and traders, past the sprawling grandeur of Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.

Beyond Mount Robson Provincial Park, the highway follows the Thompson River through the snowy peaks of the Monashee and Caribou Mountains to the resort village of Sun Peaks where you will enjoy a night stay.

Driving Distance - 411 KM | 5 hours
Leaving Sun peaks this morning, your drive will take you past sagebrush-covered cowboy country and ranch lands strung along the South Thompson River. Drive into the Fraser Canyon with its towering rock walls, and the white-water rapids of the Fraser River. At Hell's Gate experience a gondola ride over the canyon as three fourth of a million liters of water gush through the Hell's Gate Gorge below. Driving further west, the lush Fraser Valley opens into the maritime basin of British Columbia's Lower Mainland region to arrive in Vancouver, Canada's gateway to Pacific.

Park your car today.  We have included this flexible 48-hour Hop on Hop Off Pass so you can let someone else do the driving and parking while you enjoy a tour of Vancouver. Our tour is a combination of the City and Park routes and offers all the highlights of downtown Vancouver including Chinatown, Stanley Park, and Gastown, major attractions, and scenic points of interest. Explore historic landmarks at your own pace, and shop along Robson Street.
